Good IT practice suggests that you back up your data and store the backed-up data in a secure place, called vaulting, which assumes that an organization’s computer files are copied regularly on some type of removable medium, such as magnetic tape, CD or hard disk, and then delivered to an off-site location for safekeeping. The timing and extent of backups can vary (from continuous real time to once a day or once a week), depending on the organization’s needs.

3 year warranty and 24-hour hard drive replacement
Buffalo offers TeraStation customers a 3 year warranty, with the option to extend the warranty by one or two years. This warranty extension can be purchased during the entire 3 year TeraStation warranty period.
Hard drives do not last forever. Unfortunately, this is normal and well known, which is why in most companies a robust infrastructure, a RAID environment, hot-swappable devices and many other failure protection measures already minimize the potential damage. As a manufacturer, we have also introduced the VIP warranty for TeraStation customers, so that a hard disk failure will cause even less inconvenience in the future.
In the rare event of a failure of the TeraStation device itself – not the hard drives – Buffalo offers pre-exchange of TeraStations to help companies restore their IT infrastructure as quickly as possible. In this case please contact your re-seller for getting this service.
Contact the Buffalo Helpdesk if you notice a TeraStation defect or a defective hard drive. The Helpdesk numbers can be found on the Buffalo website in the Contact menu.
If the Helpdesk confirms that the entire TeraStation or even one of the TeraStation hard drives needs to be replaced, the order will be forwarded to the Buffalo RMA team.
Upon receipt of the order, the complaint will be processed immediately. The replacement product will be sent to you immediately by UPS. To receive a replacement hard drive within 24 hours, the order should be received by Buffalo before 12:00 (CET).
You will then receive further information on how to return the defective TeraStation or hard drive to Buffalo, as well as a UPS shipping ticket already paid by Buffalo.
In the event of a defective TeraStation, please return the device, including the original hard drives, to Buffalo within 30 days of receiving the replacement device. Please ensure that the RMA number 600 XXXXX is clearly legible on the shipping carton and that the unit is properly packaged to withstand transportation.
Once we have received the defective product, the replacement is complete on a complaint basis.
NOTE:** This is a free service with which we would like to support the business activities of our TeraStation partners unbureaucratically and quickly. If we do not receive the defective hard disk or defective TeraStation within 30 days of receipt of the replacement product, we will have to charge you for the cost of the new hard disk or defective TeraStation.
If a TeraStation hard disk fails and you need a replacement, simply order the device before 12 noon and we will arrange 24-hour delivery within the EU on the same day (subject to availability)*. This warranty is valid during the general warranty period, i.e. three years for one TeraStation™**.
Other destinations may have different delivery times.
Excluded are our empty housing models of the Terastation 4000 series.
