WSS 2016 and 10 GbE - 2-Bay Business NAS
Windows® Storage Server 2016 is a dedicated file and print server based on Windows Server 2016 that is designed for dependability, seamless integration, and best value in networked storage.
Using the power of Windows Server 2016, Windows Storage Server 2016 helps organizations store and protect valuable end user data. From branch office file serving to full data center integration, Windows Storage Server 2016 is the dependable and scalable choice in storage.
The biggest benefit of having Windows Storage Server OS is seamless and strong integration with a Windows-based environment.
As Windows Storage Server includes the exact same management tools such as Server Manager and PowerShell that come with other Windows Server editions, you will have easy integration with your existing Windows Servers. You can also take advantage of tools like System Center to further automate the management functions.
Windows Storage Server is sold in two different editions (Workgroup and Standard)
Windows Storage Server is an operating System (OS) that uses the power of Windows Server but specializes in file server functions, organizing stores, and protecting valuable end user data.
While having more limited features compared to Windows Server, you will still have the same Windows-based interface, which makes for smooth integration with existing Windows-based platforms.
By choosing Windows Storage server, you can lower your initial cost, as there is no need to buy additional Client-Access Licenses (CALs) for each user.
Windows Storage Server is a robust, reliable, and cost-effective solution for your data storage; consolidating multiple file servers onto a single device further reduces server management overhead and associated IT staff costs.
Features of Windows Storage Servers:
For Windows Storage Server, you have the standard Microsoft features to setup remote access like FTP/SFTP, or install third party programs. In any case it is easy to enable external file access.
Both Linux OS and Windows Storage Server OS support Active Directory integration, but the logic within on how to manage the Active Directory database is slightly different. If you need to manage over hundreds of users, we recommend choosing Windows Storage Server OS for smoother and quicker response.
Recovering deleted or corrupted data takes time, but with the Shadow Copy (Snapshot) feature for shared folders, you can restore original files quickly.
The IT Administrator can set up the snapshot schedule and allow end users to recover previous versions of files if necessary.
Windows Storage Server 2016 (Standard Edition) helps eliminate data clutter by identifying duplicate chunks in files, then storing one copy and replacing all others with pointers. This feature not only works on duplicate files but can also save space from files that are not identical but share many common patterns and from files that themselves contain many repeated patterns.
Growing data can quickly take up your storage space, which requires more space on your device. By adapting the Deduplication feature, storage space will be optimized and utilized to help you minimize additional storage investment in the long run.
If you use the Deduplication feature, you can make full use of the storage space efficiently. However, if you are required to move the data from WSS NAS box to new NAS box, then the data size will resume its original once. If you do need to make this transfer, it is recommended to prepare enough useable space in your NAS box.
